FAQ - Wedding Band

Frequently asked questions about our performance at your wedding.

What kind of power connection is needed?

A normal household outlet (type 13 outlet) is sufficient for a small set-up. For slightly larger weddings, a five-pin outlet (type 15 outlet) would be beneficial. This way we can plug in the music system, the lighting system and the fog machine (water-based hazer) on different phases.

When will the wedding band be on site to set up the music system?

We are at the wedding location 2 1⁄2 hours before the wedding guests arrive to install our music as well as lighting systems. This is followed by a short sound check. We will be happy to discuss logistics with those in charge to ensure a smooth process.

Moderation at the wedding reception?

Upon request, we will gladly take over the moderation at your wedding reception. In our experience, however, a moderation by someone who knows the bridal couple well is much more personal. Of course, we are happy to put our three radio microphones at your disposal.

Does it need a wedding dance?

Of course, it does not necessarily need a wedding dance. But we think it is a good start for the party. It welds the wedding party together and provides a perfect basis to let a real party feeling arise. Moreover, many guests do not dare to go on the dance floor before the bridal dance.

Can the band animate the guests?

Nothing better than that! We love to animate guests and build a party atmosphere.

Isn't a live band too loud?

As professionally trained musicians, we understand how to adapt to the desired volume conditions. We do not see ourselves as the main act at a concert, but as wedding service providers who are there to create a good atmosphere for the whole wedding party. We do not have open monitors on stage. All musicians work with in-ear monitoring (button in the ear). This means that we can fully adjust to the desired volume. We recommend that you place the older guests with sensitive hearing rather a little to the back and the younger guests further in front of the speakers. During the aperitif and the wedding dinner we move in the background with the volume and the performance. When the time has come, we switch to party mode, play louder and animate the guests. Be it for the wedding aperitif, wedding dinner or wild wedding party we will find the right volume.

Does the band need catering?

The wedding couple organizes the catering. Where the band eats, you decide. Depending on the situation with the company, in a separate room or in the restaurant. Most of the time we eat with the company, which has a few advantages. This way we become part of the company and can already estimate your guests a bit better, how we arrange the song order. Also, we are already in the room if the music needs to be turned down or someone needs a mic for a speech. If there is not enough room or the seating plan does not allow it, we are also happy to eat in another room. Please allow enough time for our food when scheduling the band to play.

Own playlist for music during breaks?

Do you have your own playlist for dinner music during the band breaks or at the end after our performance? You are welcome to plug your smartphone, ipod, laptop or USB stick into our music system and play your music.

What kind of music system will pianobeat take to my wedding?

For very small weddings with limited space we provide from HK Audio 2 pcs. Big Base Single System (2 double 10' subs) and on each side 16 3.5 inch sdsmusic.ch/shop/all-areas/speakers/733/hk-audio-elements-bigbase-single- system.

For a minimum of 40 guests we set up a professional audio music system from EAW.com (min. 2 pcs. 15 inch basses and 2 pcs. 12 inch tops) 10'000 watts. Plus in ear monitoring and radio microphones.

What kind of lighting effects will pianobeat bring to my wedding?

To every wedding we bring light effects (moving heads - moving colored light) of the robe.cz brand. If the wedding location allows it, we set up a fog machine (water-based hazer), which breaks the light and creates beautiful effects.

May the music system, instruments and radio microphones be used for performances by my guests?

We are happy to support you with your performances. Instruments and radio microphones may be used for performances upon prior arrangement.

When and how much does the live band play?

You can determine the playing times of the live band yourself. We are happy to receive an approximate schedule before the wedding day to get a feel for the evening. Of course we are also flexible with spontaneous changes.

Party band or DJ for a wedding?

Whether you want to hire a party band or a DJ for your event depends, of course, on your personal taste. Weddings are very emotional. Live music, live singing of our wedding musicians touches the wedding party more than compressed mp3. It is not only the sound but also the physical presence, movements and animation of the party band that transports the live emotions to the audience. Spontaneous music requests, which we as a band do not play, we can play from a laptop during our breaks. Live music has always enchanted people and created an incomparable atmosphere, which cannot be achieved with music from iPod or laptop. The live music of a wedding band is unique and one of a kind. We interpret your favorite songs in our individual way, as you have never heard them before. You will be thrilled. If the wedding budget allows it, a party band and a DJ who play until the early morning hours are the ultimate at your wedding.

Cost of a wedding band

The fee of a wedding band can vary. Popular dates are the Saturdays between May and September. The journey to the wedding location (partner site) is also an important factor. Traveling to a location in Zurich, Basel, Aargau, Bern, Solothurn, Lucerne, St. Gallen requires less time and gasoline than a wedding in Valais, St.Moritz or Ticino. Another factor is the number of guests who will be sounded. The smallest wedding we ever played was for 20 people (here a small music system is enough) and the biggest wedding we were allowed to play for 400 people (setup of 6 big subwoofers and 6 tops, which were delivered in a 2nd transporter).

In which formation can pianobeat play at my wedding?

Duo for wedding: In duo we play at ceremonies, aperitifs and dinners with a short party repertoire (male lead vocals, female backing vocals).

Trio for wedding: In trio we play at aperitifs and dinners with a medium party repertoire.

90% of all weddings we play in quartet. In this formation (wedding singer, pianist, guitarist) we can cover the largest repertoire.

Quintet for wedding: For larger weddings we play in a quintet with an additional singer. If desired, a saxophonist and or percussionist can also be added.

How much space does the band pianobeat need?

For our performances we calculate approximately the following space requirements:

Minimum space requirements duo: 1 meter depth x 2 meter width
Minimum space requirements trio: 1 meter depth x 3 meter width
Minimum space requirements quartet: 1 meter depth x 4 meter width
Minimum space requirements quintet: 1 meter depth x 5 meter width

But even if the wedding location offers tight space conditions, we always find a solution to set up. Basically, the bigger the stage the better for the live performance.

Is an open-air ceremony, aperitif or wedding reception possible?

If the temperatures allow it, we are happy to play outside. However, the stage must be protected against sun, rain, snow and strong wind.

What is included in the price?

Live performance, travel expenses, administration (incl. SVA, BVG, NBU, UVG) and a professional music and light system are included in the price. There are no unexpected costs. Our services are exempt from value added tax.

Does the band need a place to stay overnight?

Depending on the location and duration of the wedding celebration, the band may need an overnight accommodation. In the area of Zurich, Bern, Basel, Aargau, Schaffhausen, Lucerne, St. Gallen, Thurgau, Appenzell and Schwyz we do not need an overnight accommodation.

How can I definitely book the wedding band?

In order to definitely reserve your desired date for you, we will send you the corresponding engagement contract, which you must sign and return to us (digitally or by mail). As soon as we have received the signed copy, the booking

Does pianobeat have the right repertoire?

Our repertoire includes various music styles from evergreens to pop, rock, latin, disco, jazz, funk, rock 'n' roll, blues, if desired also Swiss songs, Schlager or current chart hits. If you like a certain genre in particular or not at all, you can let us know. We will be very happy to comply with your wishes. Likewise, during the performance we try to adapt our repertoire depending on the guests' and mood, in order to create an unforgettable party experience for everyone.

What about copyright fees SUISA for weddings?

Anyone who uses a song privately does not owe the author any compensation and therefore does not need a licence. This applies, for example, to wedding celebrations or non-public birthday parties.

Does the band need parking spaces?

The whole band needs 2-3 parking spaces in total. We transport our equipment with our band bus, a Renault Trafic (height 1.96 meters).

Can I have a sample of the band?

The performances of pianobeat are 95% private (closed company). Events like the Kispi Ball or Mondball are public. Please ask us, maybe there is a possibility for you to meet us at a live performance.

What do I have to organize when I book the band?

To ensure a successful event, you can send us a schedule before the wedding. We also need catering for the band members, parking spaces (with access permits if necessary) and, if needed, a place to stay overnight (by arrangement). We would be very grateful if you could send us your song requests for the wedding at least one month in advance.

How do I pay the band?

50% of the amount is paid after the contract is signed and the remaining 50% is paid after the wedding.

What happens after the contract is signed?

With the signed contract the date is definitely reserved for you. Please note the organization of catering, parking and possible overnight accommodation for the band. For a smooth wedding day we are grateful for a schedule.

What happens if the music system malfunctions or a musician fails?

We have a back-up ready for any situation and can react quickly if our equipment fails. All band members have 1-2 backup musicians that we can fall back on in an emergency situation and master our repertoire. We also have a very large network (friendships with other party bands and DJ's) that could step in. But until now we never had to pass on a gig.

Where does pianobeat play?

We play mainly in Switzerland and in the bordering countries (Germany, Austria, France and Italy). For a company party we have already been flown to Mykonos in Greece or in April 2022 we played at a birthday party on a yacht in Dubai.

What do I pay with the fee?

Behind the appearance of a band are many invisible expenses or costs. The band fee pays for wages, social insurance contributions, equipment, web presence, advertising, rehearsal space, rehearsals, studio, photo and video recordings, administration/organization, travel expenses and other expenses of the band.

What to consider for free ceremonies?

Do you wish a wedding ceremony outside the church in the open air or in a beautiful wedding location? We will gladly support you and the free wedding speakers (partner site) musically and technically. If you have a ceremony in the open air, we recommend that you use a small music system and microphones or headset so that every guest can understand everything acoustically. The master of ceremonies, the witnesses and the bride and groom are welcome to use our radio microphones.

Why a wedding band from Switzerland?

Our band members all live in Switzerland and know what works well for Swiss weddings. We are multilingual and sing not only in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese for our international guests, but also Swiss songs in dialect. In addition, getting to know each other in person is easier if you live nearby.
